Mystery in Newfoundland, Canada

When I found myself in need of a new challenge, I decided to write and submit a short story for a themed anthology of short stories. The unique province of Newfoundland caught my attention as a place deserving of my dramatic story's setting.

The Daughter of She Who Sings is a short story about Kimi Francis, a young woman whose origins come to light at a formative time in her life. What she discovers shakes the very foundation of her whole world.

As a young girl growing up in a small fishing village outside St. John’s, NL, Kimi’s life is uneventful. That is, life outside the innermost workings of her mind. Her memories just won’t leave her alone. She remembers a woman’s musical voice but is also traumatized by a terrible loss she cannot remember. The nearby sea frightens her constantly but she doesn’t know why. She mistrusts her parents but isn’t sure of the reason.

One day Kimi finds a startling contract and must decide if she has the courage to face the past and the people who may know the source of her painful memories. What she discovers could topple the fragile framework of her identity and destroy the only family unit she has known. Kimi receives help from a new friend who has an interest in the situation but even with Tiernan’s support she must face the truth of her past all on her own.

Stay tuned for more updates on this story’s publication and options for reading.
